wetland near foyers

wildelife at the Wetland, Boleskine

Location

The site (grid reference NH512225) is on an established Forestry Trail (the green route) starting at the Inverfarigaig Forestry Visitor Centre just off the B852 at Inverfarigaig. Car parking and toilet facilities are available at the Centre.

Follow the green route up into the forest for approx. half a mile and then, when the forest path bears sharp right, continue instead straight ahead along a narrower path still marked as the green route. The Boleskine Wetland Project is visible to the right approx. 400 yards further on.  Nearby is a Forestry sign directing walkers to Foyers and Inverfarigaig via the loch side. Walking time from the Visitor Centre is approx. 30 minutes and is steep in places.

Alternatively the site can be reached on foot from the B852 by following the path towards Easter Boleskine about midway between Inverfarigaig and Foyers. The path, again steep, is close to Boleskine House. No vehicular access is permitted here except for disabled access (see below). The nearest space for car parking is just beyond the Boleskine Burial Ground some 500 yards towards Foyers.

Disabled access is planned for the spring of 2009 and, at that time, car parking for the disabled will be allowed at Easter Boleskine but by prior arrangement only. A telephone number will be posted here when the access is completed.

To reach Inverfarigaig from Inverness, take the Dores Road heading south, then the B862 forking right onto the B852 at Dores. Inverfarigaig is 18 miles from the centre of Inverness.
